At the beginning of September I drove to Canmore, Alberta to meet Hirunika and Jaskirat for their engagement session in Kananaskis.

As I was driving between Banff and Canmore, the entire valley was wrapped in wildfire smoke — the kind so thick you couldn’t even see the towering Rockies around you. It felt dark and surreal, like the world was holding its breath.

We decided to chase clearer skies, winding up a long gravel road toward Spray Lake. The higher we climbed, the more the haze began to fade until finally, the mountains revealed themselves — soft light, fresh air, and the most beautiful calm afternoon.

And then there was Hirunika. Her red saree was everything — bold, graceful, and absolutely stunning against the tones of the mountains. The way the fabric caught the breeze looked like something straight out of a movie. And the way Jaskirat looked at her? You could feel how much he adores her without a single word. What I loved most about this session was how real it felt. The views were incredible, but it was the two of them — the laughter, the comfort, the quiet moments — that made every frame feel alive.

By the end of the evening, the air had cleared, the light was golden, and it felt like everything had settled perfectly into place. These two brought warmth, colour, and joy to a wild mountain day — proof that love has a way of lifting the haze and revealing something beautiful beneath it all.
